Legendary Gun Writers

Post by d findley »

You may remember we started a new series of articles in our ROCS Reports..."Legendary Gun Writers From the Past". Do you have a favorite you would like to see featured? Next one up is Jack O'Connor.

How about Maj. Gen. Julian S. Hatcher? I thought maybe he was a one-time commenter that just happened to kick off the Ruger pistol with his 1949 Dope Bag article. Then while researching the S&W Model 41 this week for an upcoming YT video, I was looking for the earliest references for the Model 41. I tripped across a 1958 article by the same Maj. Gen. Julian S. Hatcher in what seems to be maybe the earliest Model 41 article. I'm still looking to see if there is an older article on that gun but would be very interesting to know a bit more about this Maj. Gen. Julian S. Hatcher.

Thanks!

They don't have to be dead, do they? If not, John Taffin is, IMHO, the best living gun writer.

Jack O'Conner was a True Writer of what he felt & not to say the truth! IMHO
Like other true writers Elmer & Skeeter they were not persuaded by the gun companies.

Another gun writer from the 60’s was a guy named Jack Ward who did an article on a Remington Rolling Block 45/70 and a Ruger Blackhawk 357 that got me hooked on both guns. I think it was in Guns magazine but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere.
