I read somewhere that Ruger switched from black anodizing to powder coating on single action grip frames at some point. Is that true and, if so, when did it occur?
It would certainly explain the different look and feel of my new models compared to old model single sixes. I prefer the anodized look.
Has anyone had success having aluminum frames re-anodized?
Which type anodizing did Ruger use? I have a local shop that will do a type 2 job for $200 and they claim true black color results.

Re: Black grip frame coating
Owen,
I had Turnbull anodize an original XR3 frame for a build and it did not look original at all, in fact I had them fit/polish a RW brass frame and am glad I did it. Another restore I did was with Tyler Gunworks and Bobby suggested an original that he sold me rather than a refurbished one. Again, glad that is what I used.
Just FYI.
Cheers,
JAY
