5 1/4" help (Mfg date & Box)

Post by 06dilly »

Hi guys, I'd appreciate your help. I have a couple of tapered 5 1/4" pistols, one is serial number is 279xx and one is 284xx (tapered ears). The Ruger serial number lookup makes me think they were made in 1951 but I seem to recall discussion that the 5 1/4" ones were not in the same sequence. What year were these made?

Also, which box/boxes are appropriate for this gun?

Ok, one more, neither have Red Eagle grips, is this right?

Many thanks!

Both guns should be 1952 production date. That was the year the T514 was released. If they are both tapperd ears I would be curious if they are flat on top or bottom. The box should be a hinged box but some of those guns shipped later so could be possible for a two piece box a factory letter would help determine what box to know what the shipping date is. As for the grips non to my knowledge were ever shipped with red eagle medallions. The red eagles ended in 1951 in the 25xxx range. You have a very nice pair there the T514s are one of my favorites.

Picture of the back of the bolt (flat on top). Correct box and paperwork and a T514 with muzzle break.

Great information. Thanks everyone. I just headed out on a road trip and will have to examine the bolt closer when I get home. It certainly was not that strongly defined but I do recall what seemed to be a circle on the end of one of them.

I’ll get a picture up when I return. Letters are a great idea.

Thanks!
