Odd serial number on finger groove sporter

Post by markebrit »

I think I have seen serial numbers in the low 200,000's before they went to the dash. Has anyone seen any bigger without the dash, like this one?

Double stamp on the 8? The way the numbers line up look like it may have been an issue with the counter? Hand stamp? maybe it's ligit? So many questions........so few answers..........JMHO....Jack

I agree with Jack on this one, the double stamped 8 being the error.

Absolutely there were!!!
Serial number range 881045 to 881620. Most were standard carbines 10/22R
I think this serial numbering error happened in the same way the 990000 to 991199 Bearcats were made, human error in turning the 100,000 number wheel from a blank space to an 8 and then rattling off 576 guns before the error was caught. Didn't exactly match up with the serial numbers they were currently noting in the "day book" (i.e. 81044 or 81045 and up).

Did you get my email a week or so ago? Not on this subject but on something else?
