Chief AJ collectable 10/22's and items.

Post by Charlie1022 »

OK, who else collects Chief AJ 10/22's and items? I met him back in the 80's after he set the new world record shooting 40,060 targets out of the air before he missed. I have several including 1 of 200 made up with his name in the receiver.
I also have one of his scout rifles he made with a BBZ laminated stock and a blued action and barrel that there are only 3 others like it he made up. I also have a special buck knife made up special for the scout rifle series he made up. The real icing on the cake is the autographed wooded block from his world record shoot. Over the years I have become good friends with the Chief and he has stayed at my house several times and put on shoots at our local gun club and went to our local gun show. I still have not had the chance to buy one of the guns used in his world record shoot but I keep looking. Looking forward to hearing about you collection.

Am I the only one that collects Chief AJ 10/22's and other collectable items. They could be a large collection he produced over the years from the guns he used to set the world record to special rifles he built and sold.. He has done a lot to promote the 10/22 over the years.

Yet another part of the Ruger world I was unaware of, found a bit of stuff of the net about him, let's talk in Tulsa about this, really interesting.

Looking forward to our visit. I always enjoy talking about guns and RUGER 1022's are at the top of my list. Hope ruger66 can make the show as he is very knowledgeable and has some really neat pieces in his collection and loves to share his knowledge also.
See you in Tulsa.

Since I am one of only a couple of folks that know both RocDoc and Charlie1022, I can tell you that these are two big guys. they will probably block the aisle when they get together to talk! Tulsa is going to be a blast!

this is my AJ, this one was done not long after he set the record. amazing when you think about it. this would be a very early example of the new sporter stock with the soft butt pad

Chief AJ was(is) a class individual; always enjoyed visiting with him at the Ruger collectors shows at Louisville in the late '80's-early '90's. At that time, he offered "fine tuning" of 10/22's and Mini-14's. Wish I had got one!
An Internet search shows he is still active making slingshots and slingbows. He must be in his mid or late 70's now.
But, we are all that much older now!!

Remember AJ quite well. He was pretty tight with Roger Dorsett. I remember him as quite the showman and salesman! Had more BS than all the used car salesman in Pa. put together!! I say that with respect, by the way. I remember him telling the story of the block shooting record and describing how tired his arms had gotten, I think I have a signed block or two around some where. You could always tell when he was at a show, that booming voice of his was a constant, to say the least! Coogs.
