Single Six Disassembly

Post by FLUndertaker »

If I disassemble my OM SS am I going to be able to reassemble it easily? I realize it’s a vague question but I’ve never taken one apart so I’m a little apprehensive. My purpose is to reinstall original lock work I was able to source from a ROCS member. I’ve watched rugers video clips on disassembly but I doubt it’s as easy or as intuitive as a 3 minute video makes it out to be. I’ve heard horror stories of folks taking apart a Mark 2 and end up with a bunch of parts that requires 3 hands and a gunsmithing certificate to reassemble. I doubt the single six is nearly as complex but I just don’t want to get in over my head. I didn’t find any video showing up close how to reassemble an OM SS. Go for it?

Ordered. Hopefully it doesn’t suppose I am a master gunsmith in order to use the manual. Thanks.

it is NOT that hard at all to take down and reassemle an old model single action Ruger revolver.... take your time, look at what you take apart and reverse the order....the trick is to make sure you lock back ( put a nail or paper clip in the hammer strut agfetr you cock it back,,,this should all be in any video that is out there...I never looked at ANY video, do NOT get on you tube nor any OTHER "socialist"platforms ,have NO need or use for them or their viewpoints..........it is explained in many of the book s thata have been written over the years, as well as the "exploded drawing" that come with the various models, this IS NOT "rocket science"...as noted above if he can take apart any of the NEW models, this is a piece of cake compared....if you were sitting here it would be done already in the time it takes to type this all up......take your time, neatness counts and proper fitting screwdrivers are a "MUST" not some over the counter Sears universal screw driver, thats when damage is done to screw heads and the slots and the frame area around the screws holes.................the two areas to pay attention is the very small spring and plunger in the rear of the cylinder frame , sits between the grip frame and the cyl frame and the larger spring and plunger that is located behind the trigger..these two area ,care in putting it back together, do not pinch or bend the springs and makes sure they are put BACK in the proper order...I've seen some of the BEST gunsmiths out there put them in BACKWARDS over all these years..... 8-) ;)

You will do fine! I am a BIG believer in assembling all the relevant published resources from the best authorities.
