Case color harden vaquero

Post by Ironhawk »

Gentleman I need some guidance on an issue, I have four old model vaqueros that have serious rust on them I noticed that I had a tactical ar light in gun safe that one of the batteries had leaked and caused heavy rusting to surfaces on the vaqueros, my question I know I will have to strip down and recase color but how do I go about it and to get the original look or am I sooner, any help is welcome.

The "case color" on the Vaquero's is not real case coloring, but some sort of finish meant to look like case coloring. How you could duplicate it I have no idea. You might call the good folks at Brownells and see if they have any tips.

I would check with Tyler Gun Works to see what they would charge to fix them up with real case hardening and colors. They do great work and are great folks to work with.
