Filled a hole

Post by RoninPA »

Yesterday I filled a hole in my Six series collection. Got a low back (150- s/n) Security Six, .357 Mag, 2 3/4" barrel Stainless Steel. I have a 4", now need a 6". Now on to see if they made any stainless fixed sight (now called the Police Service Six or Service Six) in 2 3/4" and 4"

Reading the RENE Reference of Ruger Firearms, Ruger probably did not make any Stainless low back fixed sight models (either marked Security Six or Police Service Six) BUT, with Rugers you "Never say Never". Same with the stainless 6" (only one of which is known - but you never can tell :)) The hunt is on.

Congrats Ron, I assume you got the one in the red and white box at the auction.

Bennett,
Yes, it will come with the correct box. My 4" also has the correct red/white box so they match up well. Maybe a future display ;)

I don't think any low back stainless Service Sixes were made. If there were, would think one would have shown up by now.
I'm not positive on this, but stainless steel and chrome moly steel have different shrink rates after pouring into investment casting molds. That may be enough to say no fixed sight stainless guns were made.

I agree with that premise, and as you stated none have shown up yet whereas at least a couple 6" stainless low backs have. I wonder if somewhere in the deep recesses of Ruger there are a few low back fixed sight stainless frames (prototypes?) gathering dust because the old timers are gone and no one probably thinks about them anymore?
