After installing a Clark trigger/hammer/sear kit I took it to the range on Friday. It would fire once then the trigger would lock as if the safety was on - working the safety didn't help. Cycling the bolt would allow another shot but still locking the trigger. The Clark sear had a small spot weld on one corner which I thought was odd. The Clark 10/22 guy said, at the time, that it was needed to make the safety work. I'll be calling him again tomorrow.

Clark's 10/22 guy advised me to back the trigger stop screw out about half turn. Took the set screw all the way flush with the trigger face. Didn't help. So I have to remove their kit and return it - a shame because I'm kind of a shim nut and took the time to shim all the pins. The 10/22 gods are not smiling on me today.

So, I took that extra stock set, opened the forearm up for a bull barrel and made a modern interpretation of The Chief's Scout Carbine as a lightweight, takedown scout. This is absoluutely, positively my last 10 22 money-pit custom build. The barrel is Volquartsen with the rail turned around to get enough eye relief for the Burris 2.75x20mm Scout scope, which I also had on-hand. I only have a mock-up to show because I've misplaced the trigger pin and nobody will sell into California now because of this stupid new gun part and accessory law. Can someone please take pity on me and slip me a trigger pin? Happy to send cash back. Better pictures coming when it's done.

I keep thinking, then convincing myself otherwise, that I should snatch up one of those wood furniture takedowns.... You're making it a lot hard to convince myself I don't need one....

My current takedown, with the backpacker stock, is a fantastic little rifle, but without the wood, it just has no soul....

I very much agree, without wood it's just not the same rifle but until they make a takedown stock in wood that works like this one, I don't see any chance of a change with mine.

Well, twriggen, my unfired, in the box, stock Classic VI takedown rifle is for sale.

Went to the range today with the Scout. The trigger still needs some work but it will group inside an inch at 25 yards using SK long range match ammo. I wonder if re-facing the stock bolt would improve things?
