Just to put a cap on this thread, BUCKMASTERS graciously did a search for me and found nothing. I even checked with a couple of long-time smiths in the area thinking one may have done the mods but that shot was way too long.
After learning more about Mr. Syme, I've concluded that he probably did the mods himself; he was, famously, very handy with tools.
So, although the provenance has not been verified, it's a nice story associated with a handsome, vintage combo. If it could only talk.
