Home Grown Stag

When my Dad passed away 3 1/2 years ago we were cleaning out the garage and I found a drop horn (one side) from a Roosevelt Elk that I had picked up in about 1980-81 when my dad and I were elk hunting the Duckabush River drainage. It was a 5 point from a nice bull. I was 13 or 14 at the time and I remember I had a heck of a time packing it out of the woods!
I used the horn to have 10 knives made one each for his kids , grand kids & my mom.
I had some left over pieces made into stag grips for one of my SR1911's and my stainless Redhawk 44 mag. I also had some made for a security six and gave it to my brother.
Hopefully family heirlooms that future generations will appreciate.
I just wanted to share....

The guy who did this said I could make a buckle from it, but I'm not much of a
buckle guy. So, keep it here, not nearly as cool as Chuck's curio cabinet, but my
wanna be version!!

That's a great story! You made those into some beautiful pieces that you can cherish along with memories of your father. I happen to think that cabinet is tasteful, impressive, and quite well done. I've seen some great old ammo collections like that but so far haven't compiled much. Very nice.

It was fun to do the knives & grips, like I said hopefully family heirlooms.
The cabinet I built it from some old local barn wood & my wife decoupaged some old magazine pages behind the shelves.
I had this old stuff an wanted to see it, so now it's man cave art.

Jay,
I love your stags, especially the pair on the Redhawk. The story behind them makes them even more precious.
As far as your cabinet goes....well yours is way to neat....otherwise it looks great!

once found a winter kill elk, cut off one antler, got a little to much flesh on it, black bear woke me up from my lunch time nap. Might try to do what you did.

Thanks guys.
Since the Redhawk is getting attention here 2 more pics.
The guy who did this said it would be to hard to build the whole grip and make it
fit the frame properly, so he sanded down the original ones & glued the stag to them.
I like how the color of the original grips matches the brown in the stag.
