I pick this up quite a few years ago now. They say there is only between 12-20 of these ever chambered in 416 Taylor. They where never sold. I think Bill Ruger gave them out to friends and events.

Very nice Liberty M77 and oddball caliber to boot. I had to look it up in my reloading manuals and can't with certainty even say that I've seen or heard of the caliber before now. Thanks for sharing such a rarity!

That is a beautiful rifle. With the parent cartridge of the .416 Taylor being the .458 Winchester Magnum that rifle has impressive power. Thanks for showing us.

I was reading up on this cartridge after the initial post in my Pet Loads book and according to that source the Taylor load was developed in an experimental Ruger 77 in the 70's. Must be about the time Mr Ruger built these for friends. Great rifle with a great history. Wonder who the original owner was??

Beautiful rifle you have there and quite a rarity. According to my research the .416 Taylor was chambered in supposedly between 3 and 50 M77's. One of those the 200th year model owned by a factory employee, who is restricted from selling it, via agreement with the factory. However there was one with 200th year markings shipped in 1978, it's serial number was 71-12437. With the limited information out there you never know what is going to show up. You definitely have a very special rifle on your hands, thank you for sharing.

I have a beautiful new in the box .458 that's a nice match to her.
Its a rainy day here, you've motivated me to get them out on the next sunny day and take some photos.
Very Nice Vaughn.

Sure is a beautiful rifle Vaughn, I have to come back and look at it every few days.
I think I'll just break down and save the photos in my file of LIBERTY M77's,,,
I hope all is going well with your harvest and you were able to get plenty of good cuts of hay.
