Great snag!
The earliest 1,000 of that barrel length also came in a Single-Six box without a catalog number on the end.

NICE,,,! There's an extra couple of hundred dollars in value there!
However,, the top of the box,, is it all black as it appears in the picture,, or is something covering up the top of the box?

That's the box bottom sitting on top - something to lean the paper on. So it's normal coloring.
