SR stamped 2014 Single-Six

Post by 67stingray »

I had my NR-6-17 Single-Six that I bought new in 2014 and noticed on the top of the cylinder frame it is rollmarked with an "SR" Eagle, it also .17 HMR stamped between it and the rear sight which has the hard "R" on it. This seems awful late seeing the "S" was dropped in 2008, make more sense if it was on a replaceable part like the sight. Has anyone seen any like this?

Bennett,
I had one marked just like yours that I sold a few years back. Never caught the SR roll mark until you just mentioned it. ! Now I wish I would have paid more attention. Good Snag & a Good Eye!
Chad might have more info.

Thanks Terry, that's one thing you can count on with Ruger, you can always run into something you haven't seen before.

I just checked my ,17's. One is marked as a "Hunter" on the topstrap, & it's stainless with both cylinders. But my blued .17 has the same rollmark as above. But mine was a FoNRA special,, and has different grip medallions. My medallions are not "Ruger" but are NRA.

Good point contender! The NRA medallions are correct for the .17 HMR FONRA revolvers.
Bennett's is a standard run .17 HMR thus the standard medallions.

That is the standard topstrap rollmark for a 17 HMR Single-Six.
No need to change the rollmark to the "R" type if the original rollmark is still working good.
Something similar, Ruger's Red Label shotgun had a Southport address rollmark on the receiver for all of 400-, 401-, 410- and 411- production. When the 2nd generation type Red Label came out (very short production then dropped completely) with 412- prefix, they had a Newport rollmark on the bottom of the receiver.
Ruger's Red Labels were always produced in Newport.

Looking at gunbroker, there's one on there that is 266-19738 (2018) which has a laser etched frame rollmark and serial number, yet the top strap still has the same rollmarked 17 HMR rollmark with SR in the eagle.
I see another on there as well 266-28075 (2020). Can't tell if it is etched or not but the HMR letters are double line font and it also has the SR.

Thanks Chad, just another one of those things you see happen from time to time with Ruger. Just something else to keep up with that I hadn't noticed before.
