Maximum Numbers

Post by Coogs »

Posted this over on the RCA site and I thought I would share it here also.
Trying to set the record straight here. There have been many different production numbers published regarding the Maximum. Some as low as 400, one as high as 14,000 (which isn't far off) Another popular number is 7700. Tell you what my research has found. Total production roughly around 15,000 I know of serial numbers in the high 14,900's The highest numbered one I have is 600-14210 This Max was given to Joe Callahan, head of Marketing for Remington Ammunition, by Bill Ruger Jr. Now, according to Ruger Records 14210 has been "scrapped". Well, it hasn't been. And, according to Ruger Records (I spent many hours on the phone with a wonderful person, Wanda Santana) the highest number out there is 600-11588. So, just according to those numbers, just about 3500 Maxi's were scrapped. I figure the number of scrapped Maxi's at more than 5000. When I was going through the records with Wanda there were several "blocks" (2 or more consecutive guns) below 600-11588 that had also been scrapped. So total production: 15,000, "scrapped" Maxi's: in EXCESS of 5000, Customized Maxi's:??????? May not be as many virgin Maxi's out there as you think! Thanks for lookin', Jack

I had a local person reach out to me to help her price some of her late husband's Rugers and he had (2) of the 357 Max units, one 7.5 and one 10.5". I haven't had a chance to go look at them but I have the RENE listed value at $1050 on my cheat sheet. Is that a good price for a nice condition unit? They are both in the 2000 and 3000 serial number range. First thing I looked for was if it was 120..... 8-)

If, If, they are NIB, w/box and shipper.......1100-1500........10 1/2 seems to be about a 100 more than they 7 1/2
If they have been shot, and even with NO boxes.....975-1200.....always depends on what you want out of them and what someone is willing to pay. Just mt 2 cents......PS......don't forget to PM me the complete serial numbers sometime, Thanks!
