American .22 Magnum

Just purchased one of these Saturday, to replace a Savage in same caliber that I was not too crazy about due to feeding issues. The bluing on the barrel of this gun is absolutely fantastic, one of the best blue jobs I have ever seen. Just goes to show Ruger can blue a gun if they want to! I just fine it ironic that they chose to do such a great job on a budget priced gun, when I have seen some Ruger Hawkeye rifles with some pretty crappy coatings on them, not even blued. All in all I am pretty happy with this one.

I bet you will like it. I have one and have taken out a bunch of Armadillos with it. Very accurate.

Armadillo hunting. That is something that I didn't know I wanted to do until today.

That’s the South’s version of y’all’s prairie dogs or ground squirrels!

I was able to find the target version of the American in .22mag with the black laminate stock. It is an absolute joy to shoot:

T.Hinkley, love the laminated stock! I wasn't even aware of that model being available!
Just checked Ruger's website for your rifle, says currently unavailable, but it is waaaaay more money than what I paid for my plastic stock version, almost double. I just use mine to plink, target shoot, and kill the occasional groundhog.

I did pay a bit more for it than the synthetics are going for, but much less than MSRP. I do have an American in .17HMR that wears the synthetic. Both are great guns, and both serve their basic purpose. The target version has the thicker barrel as well. I'll use it for rodent control in Montana.
