MK IV 22/45

Post by LDB »

I've just ordered a 40107 I should get about Thursday. I hope to use it for a pistolseed clinic, in addition to just enjoying it. Are there things I should consider priorities with the MK IV? I've got the Volquartsen Competition Kit on my definite maybe list. And their extended bolt release on the same list. And their extended magazine release on their very probably list. And maybe either nice looking rosewood or similar grip panels or the Hogue 79080 overmolded. What am I missing? Or what am I considering I should drop like a hot potato?

Why not shoot it a while before buying a lot of replacement stuff that you might not really need? Shoot it, get a good feel for it, then start evaluating how replacement items are going to affect your shooting. I see so many people buying a firearm and them modifying them before they even shoot it. I prefer to shoot what I buy for a while and then decide if I really, really do need to change this, that and the other.

Get it, shoot it, become completely familiar with it and then go to the Appleseed Pistol Clinic and after that, decide what you might (or might not) want to do to your pistol.

Take what I wrote however you want, it's just keyboard advice. It is your pistol, so in all reality, you can do whatever you want to it, it's your money and time.

Just FYI - I have been shooting (and competing) with handguns since 1973. I have a few trophies and medals (USAF M-16 amd M-9) from various different competitions (NRA Bullseye, IMHSA, PPC, and a few others)

Yes, good advice. I've always liked acquiring too much and sooner always better than later. A flaw. I'm sure it shoots better than I do as it arrives. But I'll likely swap out bits because vendor A or B is supposed to be better than sliced bread and their whizmo is superior to anything and no matter how good it was it will be better and more reliable and enjoyable once their whizmo is installed. A fool and his money as they say. But I can't take it with me.
