Well, it is the latest, but only the second one I have ever owned. 30-06, 1A configuration I guess, 130-prefix. Pretty nice condition all around, except the front sight has been removed, leaving a large ring of missing bluing. 22" barrel. The previous owner was a D-Day veteran, and had quite a large gun collection.

Mike, be careful with these No.1 rifles. I caught the bug a couple years ago and I just can not shake it!? I have a gun exactly like yours in my Transition display!! It is also a 30-06 in a No.1A, serial number in the 130-03XXX range. Does yours have the following:
"S" marked Safety?
breech block numbered to the gun?
early round red recoil pad?
Nice find, despite the front sight.

the breech block is numbered to the gun, with electric pen..the safety has "safe" underneath the slide. The red pad does not appear to be the "round" type, it is kinda squared off..
I think I am going to make this a deer killin' rifle, so I am not too worried about the blue right now. Maybe I will find someone to restore the end of the barrel one day..

That is a very handy and easy to carry deer shooting rifle. I think you will like it.

Why would anyone remove the sights from a 1a?

probably thinking they would have an 1AH, but realized too late that Ruger blues after the sights are on...
