Re: Why did Ruger DC the Vaqueros?
I agree on the trading in part...that not many did it. There were nearly 400,000 large frame Vaqueros sold between 1993 and 2004. Since the New Vaquero came out in 2004 (12 years ago) they haven't passed the 200K mark yet. It was still hard for me to believe Ruger wouldn't continue making the .44 Ma...

Be sure to send the sn of that one so I can be sure it is in the reference. Not sure I knew you had one of those.

Re: 1952 Blueprint
Yes, I've seen that as well. The Dearden letter states another batch of frames would be available by February 1973. This doesn't reference what type of frames they are, Old Model or New Model. But since brass frames continued to be installed on the Old Army until at least July 1974, I believe Dearde...

Re: Another for the collection
Six rounds in the cylinder to keep the music wire ring taut makes sense. I can see the benefits of the system but the half moon & full clips have advantages too. There is no reason to load less than six rounds anyway as far as I can see. Unless you are a purist who doesn't like keeping one unde...

Re: Help with unconverting an OM Single Six
Ruger's dates of manufacture are misleading. I can't tell from the last picture if the rear of the cylinder has a firing pin groove in it or not. LR cylinders have the firing pin groove and Mag. cylinders do not. Also, since your gun is a 5-1/2" it would have been shipped either as RSS5W (LR on...

Re: Another for the collection
The Pilorget ring is not as "taught" when less than six rounds are held in the cylinder. Even though it is kind of a hassle, the moon clips are much more reliable for holding those rims.

Re: 1952 Blueprint
I don't think its that they wouldn't fit, they just decided to delete the brass frame from their printed material because they'd always had trouble with them and the bluing procedure. After match polishing the grip frame to the sides of the cylinder frame you then had to disassemble the grip frame f...

Re: Educate me on Ruger factory stag grips.
Well, these days I'm not sure anybody can tell the real deal from a set of fakes. Some years ago I took a bunch of pictures of the Rugers in a pretty major collection, one that most everybody here knows pretty well. Several of the pics were of a couple of pair of factory ivory that I had no reason t...

Re: Another for the collection
I know of at least one Security-Six chambered for 9mm. It is a 150- gun with low back grip frame, but does have adjustable sights and a square butt. Serial number 150-28267. It was a Ruger prototype that was sold on their auction page on 4/29/2008 but failed to meet the 1K reserve. It was put back u...
