I would assume as Ruger knew these S/N changes were coming up they would prepare in advance for it and not be caught in a predicament. I just looked in John's book. Page 114 makes my point: To mark the 3 digit prefix starting in 1970, 2 automatic numbering head rocker style model 151, 9 wheel tools ...

Very interesting pistol. Actually there has been only one Standard pistol located between numbers 660 to 2000, # 1130. That was a special for a friend of Mr. Ruger. Of the 2 special magazines pictured here, the top (magazine) is 1949 production the other is a little later production. Those magazines...
