They are by far the ugliest shotgun Ruger made. All are machine engraved with RUGER in gold on each side of the receiver. Ruger production history shows all were made in 2001. I'm thinking I saw a 50th anniversary engraving on one a while back, but have convinced myself it was just in a 50th anniver...

Does anyone recall what publications or authors did an article on the Gold Label in its early days? Any help would be appreciated.

The highest number I've seen yet was around 5500. Will be interesting to see what the recent price does to the sales.

Are the plates carbon steel? I'm sure when they were made, they really weren't thinking about preserving them. Wonder if they could be plated? Thanks for posting.

WTB Orvis marked Rugers in either 12 or 20 gauge. Would buy or exchange for the same in non-Orvis marked or other long guns also.
