Not sure about the "S" marked pistols but Chad addresses some "U" marked ones on page 174 of his "Encyclopedia of Ruger Pistols".

What I know about them is that it was a Davidson's Gallery of Guns offering in 2014 with NRA on the bolt instead of the 50th logo. Good call, it's been a while since I had that book out of the bookcase. After looking in Clayton's book it appears he used four of the six prints for reference in the Design and Mechanics section.

They were shipped to Kenosha, WI and I got them from Racine, WI, about 20 minutes from each other. It appears they been in the shipping tube since then.
