1) gun was stolen, original number ground off, ATF issues new serial number. 2) gun could have been the proverbial "lunch box" special and someone finally wanted to make it legal. Those are my best guesses.......someone will think of some other possible scenario's.......

Some names involved with #98 Randy Smith a Kansas Ruger dealer/collector and the other one are just initials "KM" who was a Ruger employee.....

look in the bottom corners, there may be a manufacturing code that includes the year, maybe even month/year. like 1385 could be 1985, 13, the week oy the year, 9213 1992, i think ya get my drift...

Personally I would say not much of a premium for a 3 Digit, unless it's 100 or not much higher. Premiums for me lie in the single digit, of course, there can only be a max of ten of them (yes some models do have a zero (0) serial number, and two digit guns, there are only ninety (90) of them. JMHO, ...
