Ruger manufactured 7,734 revolvers in this caliber (and fewer in this barrel length), they have become very desired by collectors, long range target/silhouette shooters as well as hunters because of the incredible performance of the cartridge.
(Manufactured from 1982 to 1984)
Caliber: 357 Maximum
Beginning Serial Number: Years of Production:
The .357 Maximum, formally known as the .357 Remington Maximum or the .357 Max, is a super magnum handgun cartridge originally developed by Elgin Gates as the wildcat .357 Super-Mag. The .357 Maximum was introduced into commercial production as a joint-venture by Remington Arms Company and Ruger in 1983 as a new chamber for the Ruger Blackhawk.
Based on the .357 Magnum cartridge, a revolver or single-shot pistol designed for the .357 Max can fire .357 Magnum, .38 Special, .38 Long Colt, and .38 Short Colt rounds. Intended primarily as a silhouette cartridge, such high velocity and energy levels have many hunting applications. SAAMI pressure level for this cartridge is set at 48,000 pounds per square inch. This is a hand-loaders dream cartridge and brass is available through Starline as well as the occasional limited production runs from Remington. There are also ROCS members who sell and trade cartridges. The ability to load the dozens of available .38 caliber bullets makes this a very versatile cartridge.
Disclaimer; I'm not an expert or even a well read novice on the MAXIMUM, We all know who the ROCS TEAM MAX guys are, so if I've made some mistakes in my advertisement I'll certainly defer to their history lesson.
