I was told that my first round of letters of authenticity are on the way from the records department. I am sure that there won't be anymore information than I was given via email, but maybe there will be a clue to point me in another direction? Hope springs eternal!

Definitely interesting. I got into my LEO catalogs & all, to see what I could find. My LEO catalog collection isn't complete,,, but in 1989,,nothing about a P89 at all. In 1992,, they list a P89DA, KP89DA, KP89DAO. In 1993 they list a P89, KP89, P89DC, KP89DC, KP89DOA. In 1995/1996, (a combined catalog,) they list the P89W, KP89W, P89DW, KP89DW, KP89DAOW. In 2000, they list the P89, KP89, KP89DOA, P95DOA, KP95DOA, P89D, KP89D, P95D, KP95D. The 2003 catalog is almost an identical copy of the 2000 one.

From what I've learned over the years is that Ruger didn't publish a new LEO catalog every year. This is why the 2000 one & the 2003 ones are almost identical. And I listed the models as shown in the catalogs I have in my collection. I do not have any catalogs for 1990, 1991, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, or 2002. Not sure if they even published any or all of the ones I'm missing.
But NOWHERE did I find any reference to any models with a "P" at the end of the model info.
If you find any more history,, please share it.

I don't have nearly as many as you do! Thank you for the information! I had a sneaking suspicion that it wouldn't be in the catalog, but thought it would be another place to look to confirm. This definitely helps.

I received the letters and there is isn't any new information to go on. I wish I could go to Tulsa this year and speak to some people in person!

As mentioned through our email conversations, the "P89P" rollmark infers something special about the pistol because not only do P89's look nothing like the P95 model that it really is, but P89's were only rollmarked with a "P89" designation, not "P89P".
I too think this one was produced under similar circumstances to the P89M marked pistols that were sold to the Chicago PD which were marked P89M per their request because they didn't want the rest of the "uninformed around Chicago" that they were really compact model P93's.
I emailed the #1 man who was at Ruger's Prescott plant during the time your pistol was made, but have not heard back from him yet.

I am scouring through all of my LEO products and paperwork and after two binders have not come up with anything other than what contender has already added. I've even got a packet of all the line art for all of the guns they produced for various first responders. Am still looking but thus far have come up with nothing on this gun. Very interesting and strange at the same time. I'm intrigued.

Now there will not be a day or gun shop that goes by that I won't look for this gun and will be all over the online auctions looking as well.

Right now there is a P89P listed at Armslist by a guy in the St. Pete/Tampa area that is offering it up for trade but I did email about a price. He says there are only 2 in existance and were developed for the Chicago police but the police ordered Glock instead and that is why the very low count of what is out there.

You will find that the factory law enforcement catalogs would have standard production items in there.
Sure, they would show AC556's and Mini-14GB's in there as well, but those were also standard.
The P89P was definitely a special request for a particular entity.

I would be careful on what the Armslist guy says that there were only two of the P89P. They might have taken Glock instead, but there were also a decent quantity of P89M's known to have been produced for Chicago. See if you can get the full serial number of the P89P from that individual.
