? about P series and the 1993 Ruger catalog

Post by gunman42782 »

I was looking through my old Ruger catalogs, and in the 1993 catalog they show the new Ruger P93. But, it is not the metal frame P93, it is a polymer framed P95! Did Ruger put out the 95 with 93 on it, or was the metal framed 93 out first? I have never seen a polymer framed P gun with the 93 designation. Can any of you guys throw some light on this?

Just looked in the 1994 catalog, and they show the P93 as metal, and don't show the polymer framed 95 in any form!

In fact the P95 is not listed in the catalog until 1997! Now, I know Ruger was notorious for introducing models and them not showing up till years later, but the 93 marked P95 in the 1993 catalog really has me confused!

Sure wish I could help you but afraid I do not know very much about the P series pistols. Hopefully the pictures will get someone knowledgeable to speak up.

It may have been done as part of a Chicago Police contract.
I remember reading that in the blue book of gun values, it is extremely rare find.

Yes, they did want the Chicago police to buy from Ruger again so they proposed a P95DAO for use and to help honor the same contract that brought about the P89M, they once again used a different roll stamp of P89P. I own the P89M and just this morning I bought a P89P. I also have the P93DAO that is the same gun as the P89M. I am still wanting to buy a P95DAO to mate up with my new to me P89P but have never seen the roll stamp of a P93 of any sort on a P95 frame.
