I was looking at a few of my favorites this past week and thought I would share a few pics of Spanish RSSE #5100 with you. It is the 1st gun in the group of 20 consecutively numbered Single-Sixes (#5100 - 5119) that Bill Ruger sent to Spain in December 1954 for engraving at the beginning of his engraving program. The "Spanish" are considered the holy grail of the RSSEs among collectors!! I am very fortunate to be the caretaker of this fine RSSE. Not the best pics but I hope that you will enjoy them.

Bill,
The workmanship is exquisite, that is a fine handgun to be the caretaker of. One thing I kind of noticed, tell me if I'm wrong. It doesn't look like they did much on the barrel. mainly the fame, cylinder, ejector shroud and hammer.

Ron, there is quite a bit on the barrel and as you say, on the ejector rod housing.

GREAT GUN! GREAT EARLY RUGER!! Do we consider these early "Spanish" RSSE to be "samples"? Meaning there is a difference in the engraving patterns and none are signed? Was there not at least a theory that some or even all were done somewhere in the Basque community(s) where engraving was (famously?) known to be done? Sadly, no one to ask as records are gone or nonexistent and the work was done on a subcontracted basis via Firearm International's handling. Memory sez we know of 18 of the 20 Spanish guns........... SO."they are still out there..."

Thanks for the other photos Bill, I didn't see that much on the others but should have figured it would be a complete engraving. That is some kind of looker, that's for sure.
