Well, I can't imagine anyone sending this looker back.
After reviewing the Reference, it seems that plum colored components were being shipped as late as 1965. So there must have been a lot of outsourced castings in inventory or maybe Pine Tree castings weren't available until then if my speculation about the metal formula is correct.

Nice snag on the plum gun. As you go along you will see the early .22's and the early .357's will come in different plum colors.

Wow! Just...wow!
I was going to ask for some pics of examples. Those are amazing. Thank you, JussBad.

This Blackhawk 44 Magnum (s/n 475) was shipped in December 1956 and has a plum frame. It is not as striking as the frames of the .22 and .357, but kind of neat.

That is a VERY neat gun to say the least, Bill.

Mine needed a little cleaning (lots of lead fouling around the forcing cone) and it has a couple nicks I hadn't noticed but it's in pretty nice shape. A set of stags bring a little more color to the party and really compliment the gun. The keen-eyed will notice that they are factory knock-offs but I love their unique look. Here are some new photos.
