1976 Colorado Centennial Survey ***Need Help***

Post by Marksman »

I have two of these guns and decided to sell the later serial number (15156) when I noticed that the Ruger Eagle and Script inside the box lid comes in gold and in a silver color.
I want to keep the right box for my low serial number 70, so I need to make sure I am keeping the proper color box.

Has anyone noticed the color difference before me? Is it due to a manufacturers change, or just a later run of the same gun? We are trying to get some feedback from everyone that has a 1976 Colorado Centennial Single Six to find out if there are a lot of boxes in both colors and at what serial number range the color change may have taken place.

Please let us know what color your logo/script has and the last digits of the serial number (they are all 76-), so last numbers is what matters. I also noticed that one box is 2-3 mm lower than the other, not much but still a difference. Thanks for your help.

Marksman, mine has the gold script, semi early S/N 0874. Interesting, that's one thing about Ruger collecting, the variations are endless.

Bennett,
That's good news, my gold colored box is more appealing than the silver. If your number is 3-digit, then my 2-digit would fit well into that. I am just curious if silver shows up anywhere else. I got a response on the .net forum that says that 123XX is also gold. That puts gold on early and late numbers. Hope to get more examples in the days to come.

I did some looking around and so far from what I've seen the lowest silver one is 13021, highest is 15282. How high is the S/N on your other one?

Don't forget, #9 and #10 probably left somewhat late.

So if I understand you correctly there are other silver script boxes out there? The numbers above indicate a somewhat later production. My other gun is 15156, so in the same range as the other silver boxes above. Curious to see if that color is limited to later production. Thanks

Bennett,
I have not been able to find any other silver script boxes. I found several on GB completed auctions, but all were gold ranging from 2XXX up to 15XXX. Did you actually find more boxes with silver script as indicated above?

Not so far, yet another item to keep my out for. My guess is originally they didn't make the amount they needed and placed a new order for them, maybe by another manufacturer. The boxes were an option that if I remember right cost around $100.

Here are the gold script boxes I was able to verify so far:
0874, 2168, 7940,12312, 13021, 15282 and 15364.

No silver script boxes have been located so far.

Please check your 1976 Colorado Centennial boxes and see if you can find a silver script somewhere, if not just report the serial number for the gold script box you located (yours or any you see online).

Thanks Everyone
