Low back Security -Six

Post by JAYDAWG »

My local gun shop has had this gun on consignment for a couple months for $600. I thought that was to high.
Yesterday I walked in and they had it at $470 so I bought it.......
I don't know how that compares to anywhere else in the world, but it was worth it to me.
SN is 150-82698 . I have read that beginning in the high 150 prefix is when the grip frame changed.
Anyone have any idea about what SN that change took place?

The change in the grip frame (low back to high back) happened in the high 150- low 151- prefixed serial numbers. Myself and a few other Six series collectors have both 150- s/n's with the high back frame and 151- s/n's with the low back frame so there isn't a definitive serial number where they actually changed.

I have s/n 150-94411 that has a high back frame and s/n 151-09505 that has a low back frame.

Oh, almost forgot, Welcome to ROCS, I think you'll find a lot of great info and people here.

Just noticed that I don't own any double action Rugers, a situation that requires my immediate attention! :o

What year were the low backs made through?

Basically 1970 through 1974. The 151- serial numbers started in 1974 and as found, in that time frame is when you would find 150- high backs and 151- low backs. Also, you will find that the early fixed sight guns (through about 1973) were all marked "Security Six" not Service Six or Police Service SIx.

What? They made them with a low-back?

Yeah, it's always fun to find varieties.

All

Really liking this thread...good stuff. As a DA guy, I have an affinity for the Six Series and the lowbacks are extra sweet!

Hittman,

These are some very nice examples...

Best,

MinorLV.

I'm having a hard time seeing the difference in them looking back and forth through the photos. Can one of you please compare and contrast the two and help educate me?
