Odd unmarked Security-Six

I run across this Security-Six that serial number indicates 1985 manufacture. It does not have the Security-Six rollmarked on the cylinder frame, the barrel rollmarked similar to the GP100 and has smooth uncheckered wooden grips. Has anyone seen one like this or have any information about any produced like it.
Thanks, Bennett

Interesting. No markings on the left side isn't odd for a Six series. No markings on the right side is very odd. The barrel markings are also odd. The ".357 Magnum Cal." is just about right for the placement but I don't recall seeing any with the "RUGER" on the barrel. I'll have to look at my late models to see if any of them have it.

What does the front sight look like? Red insert?

The smooth grips were put on some of them and were IIRC sold by Ruger also.

Possible factory employee built/bought? It has a serial number so it could be legally sold on the open market.

Ron, it has the red insert front sight, I thought possibly it might have been done in a transition period that the GP100 was introduced, the script on the barrel appears to be the same that was used on the "GP100" on the right side of the barrel.

You're right Jay, got the master of the DA's on it. I was able to get it for a good price, will have it in hand Monday. The individual I got it from doesn't have any back history on it.

Amazing what shows up on here. Bennett that is a great looking Ruger Security 100 or GP Six. I bet JayDawg would send you a bunch of Geoducks and a new NAPA wardrobe for the chance just to drool on it!

Bennett,
I agree. The RUGER on the barrel looks like my GP 100's.

WT.......you even spelled Geoduck right!!
I guess a few of them marbles are still making a connection!!!
Not trying to hijack Bennett's post, BUT since WT brought it up :o
A pic of my girls some years back after digging some Geoducks 8-)
Still looking forward to learning more about this Ruger.
Cheers,
JAY

JAYDAWG, Bennett sent me a Ruger marble but I seem to have misplaced it... The configuration on that revolver is very unique. He may have a 1 of a kind item there. Your Geoduckers look like they are having fun. I have never eaten one but I do like clams so one of those things might taste good.It will be interesting to find out the history on this revolver if someone can dig it up

According to R.E.N.E. there was a heavy barreled model with the Ruger rollmark on the barrel.
From R.E.N.E. :
GA-34HT with large "Ruger" rollmark on the right side of the barrel in front of the caliber. Known s/n range 161-25783 to 161-58842. This verity may exist in other Security-Six, Service-Six or Speed Six models as well. (4" or 6" barrel only).

The s/n on this revolver is 161-26190 which falls in that range, not sure about the heavy barrel but explains the Ruger rollmark. It also has a white outline rear sight.
