I like the .44 for Ohio deer, but I chose the Ruger No.1 in .44 Mag. for my Ohio deer rifle. It exhibits good accuracy with my hand loads. Brass Frame/Lee E

44 mag in a No. 1 would be a soft shooting Rifle

That's a nice one! I, too, would like to own one, but they are too rich for my blood.

Ruger just (once again) quit building them way too soon. They could have had steady sales for twenty years...
Mine have taken deer and put smiles on my family's faces for years without any issues.

Got the 99/44 set-up like I want it
Added a Williams (FA) Peep and FO (Front) Sight set
A Ruger Sling, Rubber Recoil Butt Pad and a couple more Mags
The Trigger came to me at very nice 3.5 lb
Now the Deerfield and my (5.5" '84) Redhawk makes for a GREAT Rifle / Revolver Combo
Have had this nice Cross Draw, Chest Holster for a while
It has Double Speedloader Pouch
Added the Rifle Mag Pouch
Made it from a Smartphone Case I picked-up on-line
Holds three of the 99/44 Mags
Thirty-five Rounds of 44 power, in one handy Combo !

Try a scout-type top mount w/a good red dot. Nice choice for a go-to short rifle. 8-)

Haven't had much luck using a Red Dot though
