Ruger 44 Carbine 101 prefix info?

Post by fishhuntnut »

I dont have my rene guide with me and am looking at a 44 carbine in 101 sn range and cant recall ever seeing one in the prefix. Seems to me I had read that they are unique for some reason but cant remember why. Please advise. Thanks in advance. Tom

Yes, Ruger had a safe prefix for a transitional change in internal parts.
Here's what I have on them from the Ruger Reference...

44R with 101- prefix. The 101- prefix was given to this variety by Ruger since it has the old style of frontal trigger housing attachment (from the 100- prefix guns) as well as the fact that the cartridge guide plate was affixed by a rivet instead of a screw (a new feature also present on 102- prefixed guns). Known s/n range 101-00350 to 101-02200. Only about 5 known. Very rare.

Nice gun!! Be sure to let us know which model it is ("R" or "RS") and if you can, the serial number so I can add it to my notes.

Picked up 101-01115 today. :)...  stock was cracked and poor job regluing it, is definitely a shooter, but I happen to have a vintage 44 carbine stock that Don Wilkes refinished for me for just such an occasion... Thanks Don.

That a rare rifle. I have only seen two in all these years. Great find.
