When I bought my 10/22 International I was not a ROCS member and did not have the Reference but I knew it was an early example. So, I got a factory letter (remember those?) which verified that 10/22x #47242 was produced and shipped in March of 1966. Now, I made a mistake on my first request, writing sn #47240 and got a letter for that 10/22, as well, which indicated that it was produced and shipped in August of 1964. Didn't pay much attention to it until recently, when I decided to check the Reference guide. It says both guns should have been made in 1965. I can understand how xxx42 got assembled and shipped the next year but it seems odd that xxx40 would have been made and shipped the year before. Just that crazy Ruger thang, I guess.

Yes, nothing at Ruger is ever produced and shipped in serial number order.
I know of a .44 flattop shipped in 1974 and another shipped in 1976.
