22-250 special varminter non prefix serial number

Post by Nahanni »

My brother just bought a 22_250 non prefix no 6xxx. It has great wood early checkering but has the 24 inch varminter barrell target crowned. How is this possible. Did they send one out non prefix after 1970? Or did they change the barrell. Is this common or rare.

I have one of the same gun in an early 130-003XX serial number from 1970 and it sounds just like your brother's. Does he plan to shoot this No.1 or would he be interested in a trade or outright sale? I have looked for this Non prefix No.1 in .22-250 with no luck
I enjoy this caliber and all it's configurations. Brass Frame/Lee E

My Bro said to let you know: Inside the fore stock ink stamp April 6 1971. It has a "S" instead of safe. It does not have the original trigger it has a Canjar trigger. And my brother lives in Canada (so not sure how this effects trading and buying). He might sell. His trade options would be a slightly larger deer caliber in a medium 26 inch barrel with target blocks.

Lee:
Your early 130- 1V has later checkering on the forearm though doesn't it?

Chad, you are correct, but the action is numbered to match the serial number on the receiver. It has very nice wood as well.

Hey guys, I picked up this beautiful very early non prefix 4 digit ruger no.1 in 22-250 medium weight barrel. It's a one owner rifle with a couple small handling marks nothing big. Original vertical split rings and the original Redfield 6-18X with a sweet bianchi cobra basket weave sling. All matching numbers. Serial number 15xx! I'm looking to sell it, but dont really know what to ask? Any help would be appreciated!

The Varminter term was used for 24" heavy barrels. Brass Frame/Lee E

if it is a medium weight barrel I assume it is a BBB configuration...26" barrel with a quarter rib and beaver tail forearm. This is the most common configuration, but the vertical split rings add some value, should fetch 1200 -1500
