Value Question, Ruger 1-A

Post by Doc4429 »

A friend has an opportunity to purchase a Ruger 1-A, serial number 132-45566, caliber .357 Magnum, California Highway Patrol Commemorative. Per the letter from Ruger, the rifle was shipped in April 1982 as described. The rifle in about new in its original box. Any help with value would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bill, Since you describe this No.1 as NIB and hopefully the box has all the paperwork, I would value the complete package at $1400 to $1600. I have one of the unmarked, overrun production models that I value at $1200 and it is is a sweet gun for my 14 year old grandson to shoot at Ohio white tail deer. Properly scoped, it shoots. my Hornady 180 grain XTP hand loads very accurately to about 150 yards. I took a fat doe about 4 years ago with this rifle and the deer dropped in her tracks! I started my grandson shooting .38 Specials until he grew in size and could handle the gun reliably. The overrun rifles do not have the ornamentation of the official commemorative rifles and mine shows handling marks, but no box. Brass Frame/Lee E

The last one I saw sell was for about $1500 plus shipping and receiving. Don't remember if it had the box, but they don't come up for sale often, and are highly desirable. I have four, including one unmarked specimen. I know of two others for sale right about at $2000, but are sitting at that price. Most had very nice lumber on them. 021

Bill, that sounds like a good price. If he can get the gun shipped for that amount, I suggest he buy it. Did he ask for pictures of the wood? Just an after thought. Good Luck! Brass Frame/Lee E

Steve Vogel told me years ago that there were approximately (and only) 200 of the unmarked overrun 357's. That variation is the rare gun of the two. That is the $1800 dollar gun. Do your homework...........
