rare no 1 for sale
Re: rare no 1 for sale
Got that right, I have the brochure on these and art prints from the 2nd 1/2 of the series, a few from the first half.
Re: rare no 1 for sale
Seems that there were rifles # 3 and 4, unfinished, that the late Lynn Laudise offered for sale some years ago. Have wondered over the years what finally became of the engraver. I was told he was in a European (that situation precluded any further engraving) mental institution in the late 1980's.........
Re: rare no 1 for sale
I hadn't heard the #3 and 4 rifles were started. I think Lee Newton has info on what became of the remaining receivers.

Interesting that they placed the serial number on the opposite side of the receiver from normal factory production, and that they chose Talley? rings as opposed to the standard Ruger arrangement.
I guess it had to be extra, extra special to justify the price tag.

The serial number appears to be hand engraved.

Here's one that was sold by Morphy in April 2017 that is very similar to the factory engraved American's and sold for $23K (!!!!).
Although the auction said it was "likely engraved by Marktl" there are enough differences in the style of engraving that I do not believe it was (this rifle is nice, but Marktl's engraving was much more finely detailed... I refer to the animal inlays at the grip cap). Still, absolutely incredible!!
