Cruising eBay and came across this ad for sale. 1963 44 Carbine ad with Frank Delano and a gorilla he killed. Pretty amazing hunt!
BUT, can you imagine if an ad like this came out today??!?!?!??
How the world has changed.
Cheers,
JAY

From what I have read about that, there was a little bit of complaining even then about the ad.

Yes, there was! The editor of the American Rifleman (Walter Howe) gave a scathing letter to WBR about the advertisement. WBR wrote back and was for the most part oblivious to the public outcry. Then Howe let him have it again.

I do not disagree, but think about the time frame; in 1963 things (world wide) were a whole lot different then.

Whatever they call it, 'Idaho Fish and Game' -?- commissioner/member of? posted pics of his pile of baboons he shot in Africa, cause they were free-no permit required-got the then Idaho Governor to 'request' his resignation. Makes us hunters look so bad. Of course I'm preaching to the choir.

Any chance anyone has a copy of the letters from American Rifleman regarding it? Here's a better image of the advertisement. I swear I read about it somewhere but can't find it again.

In one of my boxes full of such stuff. Not sure where at the moment.
Walter Howe was a good friend... signed a copy of his Gunsmithing book for me that he published I think in 1947, so he was definitely around a while.
