Project Ruger Corp Drill
I was able to acquire this Ruger Corp drill from a lady who was initially asking 4X what I ended up paying for it. I explained to her who I was and what I wanted to do with it and negotiated a really fair price based on the condition. It is pretty gummed up and obviously heavily used but is a solid working piece. For what I've got in it I figured that it would be a good candidate for restoration. Have been in contact with Bobby over at Tyler Gun Works and he seems excited about it. I have 3 options. The first being to just leave it alone. The second option is a restoration. The third option is restoration with engraving. What would you do?

Chuck,
Good for you my friend. Awesome pick up.
MY 2 cent opinion.....
Mr. Tyler as we know does amazing work, BUT, it is impossible to match/recreate original patina.
If it were mine, stop the rusting process and leave it original.
Again...just MY opinion.
The beauty of collecting is "whatever makes YOU happy!"
Cheers,

I do not "own" these guns, I am but the next caretaker
Re: Project Ruger Corp Drill
It looks to be "all there" and original. I would trust Bobby to restore it.

Chuck it is yours to do with as you please. Engraved would look great but if you return it to the original specs that would be good too. I have some small marbles to put in the grip to make it rattle so you could have fun like that too...

I think that the best and most responsible decision regarding this drill is a full restoration without engraving.

Chuck, I'd let Bobby restore it for you. IMO, engraving it would actually detract from the look.

I'm with ya Ron and will restore but skip the engraving. After all, an engraved tool doesn't seem rational.
