M77 Cutaway Stock

Post by 67stingray »

I acquired a M77 that has cutouts in it on the left hand side, it is a original tang safety short action stock with red buttpad. I put a .243 barreled action in it and fits like it should. I was told it was a dealer display but I've never seen one. Has anyone seen one or have any information on it?
Thanks, Bennett

I would show this to the potato farmer. If there is a factory connection, he will know about it.

Leaned a little about it, talked to the person that I got it from and he said he got at an auction of gun shop going out of business in Connecticut, which is positive due to the location and the Ruger plant in Southport. Also talked to the Potato farmer (thanks to Don for the hook up) he said he didn't have one but felt it very well could be made that way by Ruger for display purposes. If anyone has seen or heard of one I'd appreciate any knowledge that you have.

You might get a letter from the factory on that and see who it was shipped to.
If it went to a regular distributor, chances are the work was done after-factory.
Is there anything special about the serial number?

Chet15, I put the rifle assembly in it to check the fit. I got the stock by itself.
