10/22 stock & barrel info

Post by TINCANBANDIT »

Some questions for the 10/22 experts

Were the International and Finger Groove Sporter stocks made at SE Overton on inhouse in Southport?

What year did Ruger begin stamping "Newport, NH" on their barrels? I have a couple of older Southport barrels with Lyman rear sights, I was wondering if there was a way to date them

Tincan, all the stocks for the 10/22 was made by S.E. Overton until Ruger opened it's woodworking shop in 1971. Ruger did the checkering on the stocks in house. The International stocks were made from 1966 to 1970, the Fingergroove stocks were made from 1966 to early 1971, all made by S.E. Overton.

Ruger moved the production of the 10/22's to Newport in 1970.

Lyman sights were installed on the 10/22's from 1964 to 1975, replaced by Renal's sights in 1976, Renal was an employee of Lyman who started his own company.

If I have any information incorrect hopefully someone more knowledgeable of the group will correct me.

Find a copy of Bill Workman's book, Know your 10/22. It is full of information on the 10/22. It was done back in the early 1990's There is a lot of new models since Bill and I wish someone would write an updated version. Chad H would be able to help on a lot of serial numbers. I kept up with the laminated models until the end of 1999 if anyone has any questions just let me know.
