A potential newbie question from and actual Friendly New Guy: is there a reason why No. 1s have the open design on the quarter rib versus using a solid rib, and, does anyone produce a solid rib replacement? I have heard the "suspected to interfere with accuracy" argument, although I suspect it is so the rib can fit a wider variety of chamberings/external barrel dimensions, but I thought one of our luminaries here would have a definitive answer.
It is just an aesthetic point, perhaps gilding the lily, but that little slot in the rib is a bit out of place on what is an elegant, beautiful design.
Why not a solid quarter rib?
Re: Why not a solid quarter rib?
i have no idea, but I would assume it's for manufacturing reasons. easier to fit a 2 point contact than a full length...
