That's the beauty of the 10-22. You can tinker with the configuration and make it into something special for yourself. I have thought about getting an International stock and shortening it to fit a 16 inch barrel. I wonder how it would balance and look?

Absolutely, but it just seems to me that they sold the best part; barreled actions are plentiful.
Yes, I have very special plans for one of those stocks, if I can find one.

So, it arrived with some dents in the toe of the buttstock. The seller promptly got a replacement stock set and sent it to me. It's not as interesting and does not have a Schnabel forend but it's clean. Now I have an extra set to mess around with. The seller has a few:

This thread inspired me to make this. It has a Feddersen 16-inch bull barrel with proprietary Williams sights.

How does it balance?

Thank you. I've been looking for a stock to pair with this barrel and I think this is the perfect one. This handy little rifle is a pleasure to heft with a balance point just behind the rear sight - just right for one-hand carry. It shoulders nicely and the cool FO sights are acquired comfortably - they are high enough to work with a scope rail installed. The added weight makes It feel like a much more substantial firearm and I like a more weight-forward balance than the regular 10/22s have. Did I mention I really, really like this gun? It's addictive. Just needs some trigger work now.
It started out as a model 1103 which Altamont restocked and sold as new. They have a few listed on Gunbroker as penny auctions with various of their "custom" stocks. Some good deals.
I had the stock channel opened up at Clark Custom Guns (great job) for the FJ Feddersen 16.5" bull barrel. After I clean up a couple rough spots and oil the stock I'll post more photos.
I call it my Stik Shooter. I hope the Chief is amused.

I have used a 7/8" wood dowel with sand paper to open up the stock for a bull barrel.
guess I'm kinda cheap!!

I actually had to do that to finish opening a narrow spot they didn't get with the router. But I wasn't confident that I could do the whole job well because I don't have a decent woodworking space. Their work almost looks original.
I enjoyed chatting with Ben at Clarks about the job, anyway. Those guys have been at it a long time. I also have people down in Lake Charles.
I'm going to install one of their trigger kits, which seem like a bargain at $75.
