Educate me on Ruger factory stag grips.
Educate me on Ruger factory stag grips.
OK, I need help. It's an "Old Model" thing so I don't know that much about it. How do you go about identifying Ruger stag grips? Specifically Super stags? I know they got to be marked somehow, somewhere, but, me don't know! Thanks, Coogs.

I own a few Stags,
All Stags & Ivory Grips were made for XR3 grips only. None were made for Supers or XR3-Red grips.
Hope this helps.

Coogs,
That is it! An easy answer- There is no such thing as Factory Stag Super Blackhawk grips!

That's the easy answer, But just because they fit the XR-3 grip frame does not mean they are "RUGER STAGS". There are a lot of counterfeits out there. You need to look closely at the stakes and the placement of the medallion. I suggest you refer to one John Dougan's books for detailed information and pictures.

Re: Educate me on Ruger factory stag grips.
Glad to hear this. Was not 100% sure about the Super thing that is why I asked. I am assuming that original Factory stags are marked in some way? Maybe not? I've never run into a set in my neck of the woods, well, yet. My curiousity got the best of me here, an auction site has a Maximum with "super rare" factory stag grips. Now I KNOW the Maxi never came with stags, but was wondering if the Supers did and that they could be legit, but not to the Max. Learned something new today. By the way, 4 days left on the auction, used 10 1/2 Max, of course with the "super rare" factory stag's, and the bid is already over $1,100.00 Love to see those Max prices climb. Thanks again, Jack.

That is very true about stag XR-3 grips with medallions- not all that will be found ARE Factory! Some are such poor forgeries( although, originally, they might not have been made as an attempt to deceive someone) that the fake can be spotted immediately from photos.
Here is an obvious example; to me:

Here are 2 Auctions that the grips are "probably" correct, based on all you can see from pics.

Looking Factory stags over in person is the only way, by someone who has handled and looked at a lot of them, is best, but hardly anything is a sure thing anymore.
I have noted several on GB in recent times where the seller presented the grips as "Factory Stag", that, to me anyway, were NOT!

Re: Educate me on Ruger factory stag grips.
Alas, I must post a correction. Looked at the ad again, the grips are listed as "ultra rare", not "super rare" Maybe that makes a difference, huh?
Bid is at $1,100.00 buy it now, $1,450.00. Forgot, 8 boxes of ammo come with it.

Re: Educate me on Ruger factory stag grips.
If nice Sambar stags they are worth at least $200-250. 357 Max ammo must be worth minium of $200-300. So what is a 10.5" Maxi worth ....at $1,100 lthe package looks pretty good to me!

Still 4 days left. It may very well be a deal at $1,100.00, but I just resented the implication of "ultra rare" factory stag grips. The 10 1/2 Max, it is a 4 digit, I think it was 4000 range, nothing special there, used I would think mid 7 to mid 800. NIB, well, mid 8 to 1000. Of course I hope they go higher, for obvious reasons

Re: Educate me on Ruger factory stag grips.
I agree with Lee 100%, you just have to know the look of the original Ruger stags. IMO you really can't always go by the staking or the position of the Ruger Eagle. After you have seen and handled many of the originals you just know. And again IMO it's the same with the Ivory grips as well.ElNumeroUno wrote:That is very true about stag XR-3 grips with medallions- not all that will be found ARE Factory!
