Fred Huntington's Ruger No.1 #60

Post by ElNumeroUno »

I have been on the trail of this rifle for a long time, then lost it, as the story was that Fred had "given it away" and no one knew just quite where. I turns up, not too far from Oroville, CA. The Brown Truck brought it today.
It is what I call an AH in 22-250. the AH is the 22" A weight barrel, Alex Henry forearm and no sights. It has about as nicely figured wood as is found on any of the 2 digit rifles.

The caption on the above Huntington Die Specialties 2013 Catalog with Fred T. Huntington on the cover carries the caption:
Fred T. Huntington with Mountain Goat & Stone Sheep- Northern British Columbia- 1966 /"If you wear my hat, you can't miss" Elmer Keith
Does look to be Elmer's hat!
Fred Huntington hunted often with Jack O'connor, who referred to him often as "Uncle Fud"

Here is a pic of the cover of2014 Huntington die specialties catalog. Fred Huntington on the left, with Les Bowman, Jack O'Connor and John Jobson. Caption notes photo from the '60's.
Just found one of my old Outdoor Life magazines from Feb, 1956. article by O'Connor on he and Huntington antelope hunting with Bowman in Wyoming
