Factory presentation guns

Post by Charlie1022 »

We have read about guns made special and presented to different important people, but have you heard about the factory making up a special gun for a collector for his work with his collection? Well I have a special one of a kind that the factory made up for my collection several years ago after I helped out at the Grand American Trap shoot where my wife and I would go to meet the factory employees at this show. Over the years were on a first name basis and even helped at the both. One year we stopped by after driving back form the NRA collector show in Pittsburg, PA and had the privilege of meeting Jerry Bersett the CEO of Ruger at the time. After a nice visit I went back to the car for pictures of my collection to share with him. To make a long story short they were flying out that afternoon and the replacement person did not show up on time due to car trouble so I helped work the both. Once the replacement showed up I was thanked for helping and visited with the replacement person who I knew. Jerry said he would call me next week when I got back in the office.
Well I was busy the next week and did not here form him and did not think to much about it as I was only helping out friends. The next week I received a letter in the mail from the factory. Inside was a letter thanking me for helping and information on a special one of a kind 10/22 for my collection. WOW was I surprised!! The gun was already at my local gun shop and I could hardly wait to go pick it up that evening! All the while my wife had known about this gift and did not share it until it was here. The gun is a one of a kind rosewood burgundy laminated stock with a blued action and barrel. It is also the only 10/22 known out side of the factory with a factory jeweled bolt and it came with a factory installed sling with the round cornered RUGER patch on the sling. In talking to other collectors over the years I am the only one with such a presentation 10/22 to date.

If anyone else has received such a gun form the factory I would like to here from you.
Happy collecting,

I saw the picture you posted on the other thread, the stock did confuse me as I thought it was some sort of laminate I didn't recognize, good to hear the great story behind this one.

The color of this stock is a Rosewood Burgundy laminated and to my knowledge it was a sample color that no one ordered and that is why it was chosen for this special project gun. One of the factory employees had told me about this color several years before and how no one had placed an order for this color at that point. .Wait till you see it in person as it is a really neat color.

To my knowledge this is the only laminated gun made by the factory in this colored stock and is the only gun known outside of the factory with a jeweled bolt. This is the only laminated stock in tis color that I know of prior to 2000 and I know of no other guns made up with this color. If someone knows of this color being offered or a factory presentation gun being offered I would like to hear about it.

Here is the test target that came with my special 10/22. It was shot by Ray Roy the head of the Quality Dept. at that time. I will post the factory letters and shipper once I figure out how to resize them.
