Carl,
I've been discussing this with several people here. The problem is the cost, both buying and selling. Most people don't want cheap plastic chips, they want "real" poker chips. Well, to get a good poker set you are looking at spending about $200 to $300 PER SET (in the quantity we would be buying). The big boys (and even small companies that do one offs) that make these types of sets don't even want to talk to you unless you are buying 1000's of sets at a time, it's just not worth their time to do even several hundred.

That said, how many displayers (at all the ROCS events) would forego being awarded a gun as a display class winner and instead be awarded a good ROCS poker set. I suppose that if enough said they would, then maybe management would consider it. I know I would, I have more guns than I will probably ever shoot (and that does not even count the guns in my collection(s)).

Even getting cards made was not easy, again the card makers want orders in thousands of decks, not 200-300. Several of the big name card makers never even responded to my emails when I explained what we wanted to do. We finally got them made by a subsidiary of US Playing Card (who makes Bicycle, KEM, Aviator and others). USPC didn't want to talk until you ordered a minimum order of 1000 decks.

That said, a project like you thought of might be something that could be done down the road - however - I am not in that decision making group, I was just a researcher and passed all that I found out to those that make the decisions.

Ron I figured it would be a costly endeavor. Like you said quality poker chips are not cheap. I am going to get a set of the playing cards which look great. The handgun would have to be custom engraved but it would make a nice display.
Some people sit on $.05 of knowledge like it is the treasure of Egypt. I will teach anyone $.10 worth just to prove a point...

This playing cards deal made me call my Dad to retrieve my collection of mostly tore down/imploded Las Vegas casinos/hotels from the 1970s. Have a few chips too that are no longer accepted.
