Tenpoint,
Not trying to cut in on your ammo purchase, I will what's left.
As for your scope dilemma, my Hawkeye came with a Bushnell
and a mount that says RHK. I have no idea what that stands for.
Maybe some of the old guard here on the forum can help me out
on this one.
Some pics,
Cheers,
JAY

Jay, that should be a Tasco base and the RHK I believe stands for Redhawk.

Re: Hawkeye Pistol 2331
Finally got to shoot the new Hawkeye. Was able to round up four boxes of ammo at local gun shop last week, two white boxes and two yellow. LOL, the neighbors aren’t real happy.
After six days, it finally stopped raining Saturday evening about 7:30 so I slipped out back and fired off five rounds. It was dusky out and damp, but even so, the fireball and report were quite impressive. Recoil is quite moderate though. My wife had her head out the kitchen window in no time, basically telling me (not asking) to take it to the range! She said it was louder than anything I’ve ever fired here at the house, and that’s saying something! We’ve had some big guns come visit over the years.
Boy, that bullet gets to our 50 yard gong much quicker than the 44 Specials I usually throw at it.
Anyway, I jumped in the truck and headed to Elite Shooting in Chantilly, VA and 45 minutes later I was punching paper. It grouped quite well at 25 yards off the rest. Every group started dead-center and then strung vertical. Don’t know what that’s about, maybe barrel heating up.
This was at an indoor range, so a few other shooters wandered over to see what the Big Bang’s were all about. You might say I exacted a bit of “sound” revenge for all those times I was trying shoot bullseye with a guy blasting away with a 10” AR 556 SBR in the lane next door.
Anyway, accuracy appears to be quite good, so I ordered a couple of boxes of ammo from Buffalo Arms (87 grain) and will track down a scope in the coming weeks. I’ll keep you all posted.

Re: Hawkeye Pistol 2331
I was able to track down and purchase an old Bushnell Phantom 2.5x period-correct scope, rings and mounts for the Hawkeye last week. Despite assurances from various sellers, the mounts I received all required drilling and tapping the top strap of the Hawkeye, which I refused to do. Just as well, since I wasn't too impressed with the field of view on the Bushnell Phantom. As much as I wanted this set-up to be period-correct, I decided it had to be practical as well. I ended up pulling a old Leopold 2.5x8 EER scope off my son's old Swede that we had set up with a scout mount several years ago. His eyes are young, so I'm hoping he won't miss it.
I recalled seeing an ad a few months back for a new "No Drill & Tap" scope mount for Ruger Blackhawks made by Weigand Machine & Design in PA. The picture in the ad was intriguing because it showed a strap or "underlug" that wraps under the barrel and ejector cover. It's made of aluminum and the set screws that contact the barrel are brass. I ordered one from them online and it arrived in two days.
It mounted right up, perfect fit. The only work I had to do was to shortened the rear sight screw about two threads where it extends down through the rear sight hole in the top strap. If you ever install this product, remove the breech block or cylinder first and then run your finger along the inside of the top strap to check for screw intrusion before re-installing. The clearance can be quite tight here and even just one thread or bur can scratch the block or cylinder. It may look OK visually, but do the finger test. Ask me how I know this.
I only had about 20 minutes to shoot last night before the range closed, but after settling in and tightening the scope rings a couple of times I was able to shoot a nice little three shot group at 50 yards off the bags with Winchester white box factory loads (see attached). I hope to do more shooting later this week with some 87 grains loads I purchased online from Buffalo Arms. I'll keep you posted.

That's an impressive group! I always thought the Hawkeye was a good shooting gun, but I could not put a group together that tight, good shooting.

Thanks for the reply about my RHK scope mount.
Would this be a Tasco like my friend Chuck suggested,
or possibly another brand?
Looking forward to your reply.
Cheers,
JAY
