Rare 10/22 magazines

Rod, I think the end plate is wrong because back in 1976 they did not come marked on the end with 10 shot. I will have to research back to when they started marking the end plates. Maybe Vaughn can help answer this question?

Well you are correct sir....it is a later vintage end....still a red body just like the others....makes it even "RARERER"

Why would someone change out the end plate on such a rare piece in the first place? They destroyed much of the value even though it is still a rare body on this magazine.

I think they didn't have enough end plates for bodies and used a newer black plate....

If that is the case then that would make it very rare if not one of a kind because when Bill Ruger found out about the Red a White magazines he said that there would be no more. To have one surface years later with a new end marked 10 shot on a red body would make it special.

Jack Behn, WBR's right hand man, ised to bring a few of the red and white magazines to the NRA Annual Meetings and I saw and held them back in the 1980's. He said no blue mags were ever made, thought there was a brief discussion(s) about a set of red, white and blue 10/22 mags for the 200th year programs. WBR was said to have nixed the idea when he was advised of the cost of the colored resins. I can tell you that when I asked WBR about producing an orange color 10/22 magazine, at the 1983 NRA Annual Meeting in Phoenix, he gave me a very abrupt, colorful languaged response, focused pointedly on the *******cost of that "damn orange plastic."

Thanks for sharing this information! Considering the WBR did not like the laminated stock I have to ask to the question is it possible that other colored mages might be issued some day. I have sent an email asking about possible additional colored mage but have not received a reply. If you would like to see other colors I recommend you contact Ruger

Charlie, for the record, in that same noted 1983 conversation with WBR, when I asked him diplomatically and politely about putting a formal Ruger Historian in place, like Colt's Huber and S&W's Jinks, he told me in language verbage that us collectors' parents were not married, (if you get the drift) He was much more direct of course...........Tanko and I should write a book................Adios for now, with more to come as I think of them..................

Thanks for sharing the information and that would be a great idea of a history book on Ruger collecting. We need to get all this recorded somewhere. The forum would be a great place to start to share all the amazing information that our members have learned and acquired over the years.
