That is really nice.
As to build vs ship dates. I have a RSS9X produced in June of 1960 and shipped in November of 1962.

VERY nice!

No clue as to why it sat for 5 years. Often,, there are Rugers that were made,, then not shipped for several years. I'd say there can be several reasons it didn't ship right away.

Curious to know whether it has a 5-groove or 6-groove barrel.

Chad,
I suppose I should have included in my original post that
thanks to RENE, I found it to be a type 1A with a 5 groove barrel.

Even as ignorant as I am, not hard to see that you now have in hand a beautiful Type 1 Red Eagle! Sincerely. bruce.

No theories on why it sat around 5 years before being shipped????? :?

Since it has all Type 1 parts on it, it wasn't a case of finishing the receiver up at a later date.
Maybe it was finished and somebody set it aside.

The ship delay is odd, but, also belonging to the S&W camp, that wasn't terribly unusual at Smith. The S&W Historical Foundation letters indicate when the SN was shipped as there is no record of when it was built.

Very nice grab, and my Nov. '50 Type II says "Hi."
